Thursday Island (TI) is the capital of the 70 odd islands in the Torres Strait so as to speak. It is an island of about 4 square kilometres, has a population of about 3,800 and is the regional headquarters for 36 Government Departments, yet it still manages to be one of the most laid back places around.
